The 2008 NT Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness Titles was a huge success, bringing a fully Natural competition to the Territory. It all started during the morning drug screening process when each competitor, male and female were required to produce urine samples for the drug screening. Each competitor knowing they were clean and contained no banned substances in their system for the minimum 7 years got through this process with ease.
Then it was time to check out the stage and start the preparation of tanning their fine tuned bodies and put on their posing costumes. The atmosphere in the pump rooms was awesome with each competitor giving a helping hand to each other and the more experience providing vital advice to the newcomers. Out of the 22 competitors, it was a the first competition for 16 of them.
The stage was set, the lights dimmed and the WNBF presentation began, this was a 5 minute cue to the organisers and the competitors that the show was about to begin. Then the audience was welcomed to Larrakia country and the WNBF National President Danny Chau welcomed the Darwin audience to the WNBF Show.
Each competitor was now lining up backstage for their turn on the stage. First to hit the stage was the figure and fitness girls, and wow, these girls looked good. Next to hit the stage was the Novice Men, the first timers. The crowd was not let down as these boys thrilled the crowd with the ripped bodies and the crowd loving performances.
Then it was the Ms Fitbody girls turn to show off their bodies and all their hard training and dieting that they have been enduring in the past 8 months. With their bodies displaying awesome tans and their muscles bulging, the judges were up for a hard day at the office.
Then the open men’s hit the stage and if these guy’s are Natural then who needs to abuse the substances when can get the gains and the ideal body naturally. The men’s who ranged form middleweight right up to Masters over 50 displayed an awesome competition and one that will go down in history for Eric “Vikings” Cartwright cyborg routine.
At the end of the day the Overall winners, Ms Fit body Diane Beningfield, Women’s Bodybuilding Diana Perrryman and Men’s Bodybuilding Hector Del Nido all won their way down to compete for the NT at the 2008 Asia Pacific Championships in Sydney in October. The NT will also be sending down a support team of Eric Cartwright, Scott Pledger, Sammy Laughton and NT Present Stephen Cardona to bring home medals from the championships.
