The Peninsula Beach Resort employs young Balinese people with the promise of $50US cash should they get someone off the street to go on a "1hr tour of their resort in the hope that you will think of us when planning your next trip & recommend us to your friends” Sounds innocent…

WRONG!!! These assholes do competitions at the entrance of major shopping centres throughout Bali. Young Balinese people walk up to you and hand you a scratch and win… so your feeling lucky, “Just get 3 of the same and win.” My partner wins the t-shirts then there is the “Star Prize” and the options of prizes are
    1- $1,000US Cash
2- A luxury holiday free for one week
3- $250US worth of discount vouchers to be spent at the Gallery Shopping Complex
    4- A Sony camcorder

WOW I got 3 Stars, you are then told that you will be sent to the hotel for free, for your 60 min tour (hoping that you will return to stay with there in the future).
So fantastic you could win $1000US. When you get to the hotel you are greeted by a flustered Australian women with bleached blonde hair and a speedy sales pitch.

You soon find out that this resort is only available to members and that they would like to talk to you about a membership. (So much for having a look round and getting a recommendation) These memberships last, not one year, not 5 years but 21 years for only… $12, 000US as a bottom end entry price. They throw in one free week stay at one of their hotels around the world but should you decide that you'd like to stay at another hotel not on their listing a fee of $169 is incurred. (When you work out the sums, it's still cheaper to click onto Wotif.com and choose your holiday yourself without limitations or a lump sum expense).
You have to sign up on the day, Pay on the day. So then your thinking, 'Well can I have my prize?" and the reply is
“Well yeah, but only one a million people get anything except the discount vouchers, (well you got the scratchy at a shopping centre they must be good ones) the vouchers are only really good for adventure stuff and most are only 5 – 10% off,” You can barter for better deals on the streets anyway.
“What about our t-shirts?” and then it comes…
“I don’t know why you would want them you can poke a whole through them with a stick”.
So you walk upstairs and without so much as a thankyou for coming, your left in the lobby with one of two choices, you leave having spent $12.000 or more of your hard earned money on a SCAM that would have saved you nothing. Or you walk away with shitty t-shirts, a hole in your heart, 3 hours out of your day and a book of discount vouches that are only good for a couple of bucks.

There are some truly amazing places to stay though out Indonesia the choice is yours don’t get told when and where to stay for someone else’s price. Places like the Hyatt will make you go back not because you have to but because you want to.
