DJ MAX

What style of music where you playing when you first started Dj’ing?

After just moving back from Melbourne, at a time when dj’s like; Nick Fish, sasha & digweed were quite big, Hard Trance was the style I had grown to love.
Hard Trance was my starting point and, still to this day is a style I fall back on when doing ‘Hardstyle’ support gigs.

What has been your most memorable gig?
Most of the gigs I do are memorable however, I am still waiting for the ultimate high.

Music has evolved and changed over recent years, what style do you prefer to play?
At this moment in time, I am known as a ‘house / electro house’ DJ.
I prefer playing house music as, the patrons can either sit and chill out with friends or, dance the night away.
House is a happy, uplifting style which keeps everyone moving all night.

What is it about the music scene in Darwin that makes it different to the rest of Australia?
The music scene in Darwin is very commercial.
People like to hear what they know and Darwin DJ’s, ‘play it safe’
( myself included ) but, If people are dancing, drinking, tapping their feet then, we are doing something right.
Besides that, not a lot is different.
We are up to date with our music, with the internet, regular vinyl orders from south and e-mail updates, Darwin is still keeping up with our neighbouring states.

How has the introduction of CD and MP3 as opposed to vinyl changed the way you play?
It has given a lot of DJ’s a new ‘Edge’ in the sense that;
With vinyl you can: Play, Scratch and spin back.
With CD you can: Play, scratch, spin back, loop, sample, use effects and basically , change the dynamics of a song mid play.
I find CD players a LOT easier to use and the music is a lot cheaper to source, buy, download etc but, I will always be a vinyl DJ.

What is your all time favourite track and why?
Silence by DELIRIUM, feat Sarah Maclachlan ( Tiesto Mix )
It has a solid beat, fantastic vocals and an uplifting tune.
It takes me on a journey EVERYTIME I hear it.
Silence is one of THE greatest tracks that will ever be made.

Can't argue with that. What a great track.
